PS3 Shortage Issues Have Been ‘Resolved’

Since March, both consumers and businesses have seen the effects of what many are calling one of the biggest console shortages in years. The PlayStation 3 has been in record-high demand since the announcement of the PS3 Slim back in August of last year, and as a result production hasn’t been able to keep up with demand. Thankfully, according to Sony the shortage may very well finally be over.

Following the release of the June 2010 NPD results, Sony has released a statement regarding the PS3 shortage that has been affecting the market since early March. Sony issued the following announcement today:

“PS3 inventory issues have been resolved and June 2010 marks the 11th consecutive month of year on year growth for the platform…”

The PS3 shortage has had a large impact on Sony’s sales so far this year, and despite the lack of supply, Sony has still managed to consistently grow year-to-year topping even the best months since launch. With blockbuster exclusives such as Gran Turismo 5 and LittleBigPlanet 2 as well as some great multi-platform titles like Mafia II and Call of Duty: Black Ops still on the way, Sony should be sailing toward this Holiday season with enough momentum to knock the socks off Santa.
