PS3 May Support 3D ‘Slider’ Technology Soon

One of the most popular appearances at E3 this year was undoubtedly the upcoming Nintendo 3DS. The handheld, which will be releasing early next year, is the first device to incorporate 3D technology without the need for glasses. Nintendo’s handheld captivated the audience at E3 with it’s slick technology, so much so in-fact that Sony may very well be jotting a few notes.

According to Kotaku, the developers of the upcoming Sly Cooper Collection are strongly considering adding a slider to adjust the depth of the 3D in real-time via controller input. Nintendo’s 3DS will feature a similar feature which instead is a small switch on the right-side of the screen to allow users to both toggle between 3D and 2D or even change the strength of the 3D experience. During a discussion with Kotaku, a Sony Producer persisted in explaining why the slider would be a worthy integration and also why the technology would prove invaluable.

Assuming this addition to the PlayStation 3’s repertoire is seeing some level of implementation, chances are that Sony will like the idea and possibly require it’s addition to future 3D games. 3D has been known to cause headaches, and in my cases it’s due to the intensity of the image which can be rectified by a slider. The Sly Cooper Collection will be one of the first retail titles to support 3D on the PlayStation 3, so now would be a good time for the slider to become an addition rather than later.
