Fans of ‘Rasslin’ know that there might be 100’s upon 100’s of Wrestling leagues out there, but only one truly rules the sport. That is the World Wrestling Entertainment Federation, better known as the WWE. The company has become a multi-million dollar machine and THQ is the lucky game developer who has the exclusive license to get a part of the money-making pie. Seeing that three different WWE games wasn’t enough, THQ is currently working on a fourth. Could this title become the New ‘King of the Ring’ or will the yearly RAW vs Smackdown still reign supreme?
THQ core games boss Danny Bilson revealed to CVG that a fourth, ‘less simmy’ game is in production at THQ. He also let it be known they will be ‘growing’ the brand so that there will be a new WWE title every six months…
We’re growing that brand basically through an alternate SKU every six months – the other SKUs [All-Stars and the unannounced game] are more friendly, easier and less simmy than Smackdown! Vs Raw.
By the way, just to clarify, ‘growing’ the brand doesn’t mean that they’re milking it for all it’s worth. No way! Why would you ever think that? I thought WWE All-Stars was going to be the ‘less simmy’ series to compliment the ‘sim’-ful nature of Smackdown vs RAW? Regardless, if all the titles are good, the more the merrier for Rasslin’ fans, I suppose.
One note: Not to confuse anyone, but there is a third WWE title in Asia, ‘Smackdown vs RAW Online’, that is free-to-play, but probably won’t make its way to the USA anytime soon, says Danny Bilson.
