Popular touchscreen mobile title, Angry Birds, from Rovio Mobile is a simple yet addictive game that encountered huge success on the iTunes App Store for iPhones and iPod Touch’s and the OVI Store for Nokia touchscreen phones. Not to be taken aback by the immense success and great accomplishment of reaching the number one spot for paid games on the App Store, Rovio Mobile gained a new-found ambition. Revealed straight out of the horse’s mouth, Angry Birds is expanding its horizons onto the other gaming platforms.
According to the co-founder of Rovio Mobile, the fowl catapulting combat game is set to hit the PlayStation 3 and the PSP. While details and specifics were not given on the pricing or even a release window for the PlayStation Network debut, Joe Wee revealed the plan of port during an interview. Along with divulging financial statistics, the co-founder gave this quick run-down of the title:
“When it was released last December Angry Birds made a slow start but as word got round, everyone’s gone crazy for it. It’s a simple idea – just smash the pigs to pieces – but it’s very addictive. You hear the phrase ‘just one more go’ used a lot in video games but it definitely applies to Angry Birds.“
Finally, Wee added that Rovio Mobile is “also releasing it on Nintendo DS, Sony PSP and PS3.” With 100 levels of canary-flinging, swine-smashing action, Angry Birds contained a good amount of content for an iPhone and iPad title, especially when taking the low price-point into consideration. Using comparative advantage, we can imagine that an outing on real video game platforms could very well yield more content (along with better controlling). Chances are Angry Birds will be apart of the miniS lineup of titles but until more light is shed on these colorful birds and green pigs, only time will tell.
