Naughty Dog Undecided about 3D & Move

With Sony trying to convince consumers that 3D can be as impressive in gaming as in movies, what better way of showing off the technology’s capabilities than to have it implemented in the award-winning, industry-defining series that broke the record for the number of times critics used the words “blockbuster” and “cinematic” in one review.

Speaking with PlayStation University however, community strategist Arne Meyer commented that Naughty Dog would wait to see whether 3D support would make sense before using it in their game.

“What we may do with this technology depends on how it fits into the story we want to do, so we haven’t made any decisions at this time. Generally speaking, it is an exciting technology to see come to fruition in the home, as it opens a variety of ways developers can innovate with their narrative and with their games.”

Meyer has much the same comment to make about PlayStation Move.

“…we’re extremely fortunate to have a platform in the PS3 that can provide an option to use these new tools to allow developers and storytellers to interact with their audiences in new and compelling ways. Utilizing the Move is certainly an option we would consider – again, if it fits in with our narrative and design goals.”

Only time will tell if, come next Christmas, we’ll be scrambling up cliff faces with our glowing spheres, watching Sully’s bristling ‘tache get involved in all sorts of 3D shenanigans. But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves; after all, we have to wait for Uncharted 3 to even be announced first.
