The sandbox-styled dancing, action, gambling title from Midway, This is Vegas, is seemingly reported to have been canned even after reports suggesting development costs exceeded a staggering $40 million.
Publisher Midway ran into financial trouble in ‘09, consequently leading to This is Vegas getting sold to Warner. Now, CVG are claiming a source close to them has confirmed the game has been canceled and a total of $43 million has been spent already after 3 years of development.
“Apparently the entire This Is Vegas project has been totally canned. Midway spent in the region of $43 million up to the point when it was being sold to WB. It was moving along to a point where the title was on the schedule for release late last year – but still needed another eight months to a year to finish with a studio burn rate of $250,000 per month.”
The source further added what most of us would probably share the same view on:
“It’s a ridiculous waste of money, a silly budget when you think that games like Konami’s Saw – which made profit – were built with around $3m.”
This is Vegas was scheduled for a release across multiple platforms.
