Aliens: Colonial Marines Still Under Development

Gearbox Software may be focused on bringing the king back – as well as focusing on current products – however, this hasn’t stopped the developer stalling any other projects. Sci-fi first-person shooter Aliens Colonial Marines is still in development amidst fears the game had been canned.

In fact, Gearbox even showed off the game to the media during PAX – to reassure everyone that the project is indeed alive. The game is currently under development at the Dallas, Texas-based studio. Gearbox’s co-founder Randy Pitchford didn’t reveal much more than that during their panel at PAX where they showed off the title. Aliens movie studio 20th Century Fox and Aliens games publisher Sega are working on the game.

So, now we know that Gearbox clearly believes the game is a priority for them, it would make sense to at least talk about the game, right?

Sure, why not? Aliens: Colonial Marines is a squad-based first-person shooter in which the player controls four Colonial Marines, each with a different personality and primary weapon. The title will also feature two players to play cooperatively offline as well as competitive multiplayer modes being included.

The story of Aliens: Colonial Marines is being written by the folks who penned Battlestar Galactica: Bradley Thompson and David Weddle. The events of the game are set after those of the film Alien 3. A Colonial Marine search and rescue team has been sent to investigate the U.S.S. Sulaco in search of Ellen Ripley, Corporal Dwayne Hicks, and the rest of the missing marines.

Kotaku managed to capture some screenshots of Pitchford showing of the game’s artwork.
