Assassin’s Creed Almost Assassinated the PlayStation 2

Some great new franchises have been generated during the last few years of the video game industry. Dead Space immediately comes to mind as well as Ubisoft’s steal-action Assassin’s Creed series. But what if Assassin’s Creed was a PlayStation 2 game instead?

Recently, ex-Ubisoft employee Jonathan Jacques-Belletête shared some details regarding the original conception of the Assassin’s Creed series. During the interview Jonathan stated the following:

“I worked on Assassin’s Creed, which was great… this amazing version that I was the art director on for the PS2 and Xbox 1…”

Jonathan also proposed that the original Assassin’s Creed concepts were used to design Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines, the first handheld iteration of the series. Given that the original title debuted in late 2007, it was released just in time for the new console generation. The PlayStation 2 surely would have compromised the open-world environments that have made the series what it is today.
