Plenty of Scare Left in the F.E.A.R. Franchise

While the first-person shooter F.E.A.R. 3 (previously known as F3AR) is currently set for a release some time early next year, developer Day 1 Studios believe there is enough potential to keep the fear alive for years to come.

In an interview with NowGamer, the UK-based developer said that the latest entry in the horror series will not be the last. When talking about the game’s co-op mode, director of design Frank Rook talked about how the characters of Point Man and Paxton Fettel will evolve beyond the latest game.

“We’re setting up that that can definitely happen, but as of right now, we’ve only extended this beyond FEAR 3 just a little bit. Our goal was to finish FEAR 3 and give it a satisfying conclusion. But we also wanted to make sure that the FEAR universe still has a huge amount of potential to grow.”

While it isn’t known if this “potential” will be DLC or full titles, it looks like there will be more to come. Personally, it’s incredibly satisfying to hear that the game will have a definitive ending. Too many games are created with the sequel in mind, rather than creating a completely contained experience. What do you think? Should developers leave games open for sequels or require DLC? Let us know in the comments below.
