FIFA 10 sold a few million units immediately after it launched. FIFA 11 is following suit as Electronic Arts has announced the football game has sold a cool 2.6 million units in its opening weekend and players should look forward to receiving Ultimate Team next month for free.
According to the publishing powerhouse FIFA 11 has racked up $150 million in sales thus far. EA also announced that the Ultimate Team DLC pack for FIFA 11 will be released for free. EA Sports head Peter Moore stated:
“We’re thrilled at how fans embraced FIFA 11 last weekend, and we are excited to be able to offer one of our most popular game modes – FIFA 11 Ultimate Team – for free this November. This is a landmark achievement for EA SPORTS – we’ve shattered sales records at retail, critics are praising FIFA 11 as being one of the most authentic and innovative titles ever, and fans are connecting and competing with other gamers around the world and have logged a record number of online connected game sessions.”
The period between October 1-2 was the busiest an EA Sports title has had in the online aspect of the game, with 11.3 million players for FIFA 11.
