Killzone 3 is looking to be one of the biggest shooters on the PlayStation 3 in 2011. But half of the appeal of modern first-person shooter games is the competitive multiplayer aspect of the game. How do you test that? Why, Betas of course!
Just announced over at the official PlayStation Blog, the Killzone 3 Public Beta Trial will be launching on October 25th. This will be the first PlayStation Plus exclusive beta since the service’s announcement. While it is open to ANYONE with PS Plus, there will be a limitation on how to get in. There are a several specific steps to follow if you want to get in, so read up carefully. Straight from the Blog:
- Be(come) a Plus subscriber
- On October 19th (October 13th for SCEE), an exclusive Killzone 3 XMB Theme will appear in the Plus section of the PlayStation Store. The first 10,000 Plus subscribers to download this theme (5,000 SCEA Plus subscribers and 5,000 SCEE Plus subscribers) will receive access to the Public Beta Trial.
- After you’ve downloaded the Killzone 3 XMB Theme, you will receive an email on Oct. 25th containing the Public Beta Trial promotion code and further instructions through the address you registered as your PSN Sign-In ID. Make sure you’ve set your notification preferences to accept emails from SCE, or we won’t be able to contact you.
PlayStation Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman and Killzone Community Leader Aryeh Loeb have also been quickly answering any questions that have been popping up on the Blog. Here is what is known so far.
- This beta will NOT contain Move or 3D support. It is strictly for the mechanics of the game, so now new features will be enabled.
- The exclusive Killzone 3 theme will not cost any more money outside of the initial PS Plus membership.
- The beta will last “as long as it takes,” so it could go for a few weeks or months. But not until after the game’s launch.
Are you excited about this announcement? What about the PS Plus exclusivity? There are plenty of people over on the Blog complaining about it being Plus only. I know there are a bunch of YOU who complain that there haven’t been ENOUGH Plus exclusive beta. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
