Castlevania Crashing and Corrupting PS3’s Save Files

Many PS3 users have been reporting frustration and anger over Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and it’s not over the difficulty of the game either.  Some nasty bug has crept its way onto the release copy of this action-adventure game, causing their save files to spontaneously corrupt.

Just after selecting a save file to load, some gamers have been greeted with a message: “Load Failed. Save file corrupt. Auto-save will now overwrite. Press X to continue.”  Some have reported that before the message appeared, an “Unhandled Error” would appear throughout the game.  The end result though, is that the game’s save file will have been completely destroyed, removing every invested hour of gameplay.

Castlevania also only has one save file, unlike some games that allow you to write multiple files.  If you have this game, it is highly recommended that you back-up your save file frequently onto a USB drive to avoid being cursed with this bug.

While the Xbox 360 users have reported seeing the same error messages, fortunately their save files were not affected by the bug.  So far, it seems to be a PS3 isolated incident.

We’ll keep you posted when Konami releases a patch to address this crisis.
