Even though Kane & Lynch may have had the money flowing in their world, none of that dough seems to have made its way into the developers pockets. IO Interactive has confirmed that they had to tighten their belt and lose some their talent.
General manager of IO Interactive Niels Jorgensen verified that they recently let go a few members of their staff, although no definitive number was announced.
“I can confirm that we have made some internal changes at IO Interactive which has regrettably resulted in the loss of some jobs.
“This is a natural part of any studio’s existence when you ramp-up and ramp-down on projects to ensure you have the right level of resource and expertise within the studio. We genuinely wish those who have been affected by this, the best of luck for the future.”
Rumors have already been placed that the layoffs were attributed to a recent deal that went south with Microsoft, thanks to a report posted by Computerworld. Some also speculate that the number of employees released is somewhere close to 30 – but again, that number has yet to be confirmed directly by the developers.
Jorgensen added that he sees that the gaming business closely resembles the movie industry.
“Like the movie business, we are very project oriented. And gaming companies adjusts up and down relative to where you are in the projects. It is quite common practice, but we are still always sad to say goodbye to employees.”
