Ninja Gaiden 3 Will Reboot Franchise

Ninja Gaiden attempted to bring something new to the hardcore action genre, but the sequel left a bitter taste in many fans mouths due to the over-the-top difficulty and awkward gameplay mechanics. We’ve now learned that developer Team Ninja is going to try and recapture their fans with a fresh take on the franchise.

Team Ninja’s boss, Yousuke Hayashi, recently commented about the reboot for their upcoming game, Ninja Gaiden 3 in an interview with Japanese gaming mag Famitsu:

“We’re developing it with the idea of restarting at the beginning, saying “We’d like to make the action game that’s most interesting for the current era.'”With this meaning, it’s going to be a game that’s not bound by the past more than necessary. Of course, we will be valuing the past, but in a good meaning we’d like to make it into a game that’s not tied down by the past.”

He also added some hints about the reveal image from the Tokyo Game Show this year, alluding to a few things that are “unnatural.”

“He seems to be doing something with his right hand. Also, there’s something not normal about this hand. It’s covered in blood, but there’s something unnatural regarding the blood.”

The idea of rebooting the series sounds interesting especially after the mixed reception of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. Perhaps Team Ninja have heard the fans’ complaints and will steer the franchise back to what worked in the original Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
