Sony Announces Cloud Based Music Service For PSP

Qriocity, Sony’s iTunes-like service that provides video on demand for numerous internet enabled Sony products, has ambitious plans. Not only is the service set to expand into Europe later this year, but the Japanese electronics giant is planning to add cloud based music streaming to Qriocity’s library. While it has been rumored for a while that the service has its eyes on the PlayStation 3, Sony’s intentions for the PSP were unknown. Now, they have announced that the music streaming service will be coming to the handheld.

Music Unlimited will give PlayStation Portable owners “access to millions of songs stored and synchronized through the cloud”, and will be powered by Qriocity. The PSP is set to receive an update (v6.35) “soon” that will prepare it for Music Unlimited, which currently has no release date.

There is no news on whether the PS3 will also receive Music Unlimited, but it seems like a natural progression for the service.
