GT Academy: Getting Real

Gran Turismo 5 is known for its astoundingly realistic physics, incredible roster of over 1000 real life cars, and for having realistic damage on many of the premium cars. In an effort to show how realistic the simulation is, and have a little fun with it too, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) and Polyphony Digital have teamed up with Nissan to bring us another round of the GT Academy contest.  Now, its been announced they’ll be taking it one more step by hosting a reality TV show centered around the contest.

The 2011 Nissan GT Academy is easy to enter, but will be a daunting challenge to even the most seasoned of drivers. Consisting of 4 full rounds, contestants will enter the first round by using pre-selected Nissan cars to make the best times possible in the time trials provided for round 1. All you need to do is go here to register for the contest, then login on PSN, load up GT5, and compete in each of the time trial events for Race Round 1. The contest can be entered up until January 23, 2011, so there’s still plenty of time to get in on the action.

After 3 rounds the contestants will be narrowed down to the top 32 entries.  These contestants will have the privilege of competing in round 4, which will be aired as a reality TV show on the Speed Network in 2011.  Filming for the show will begin in March, where the racers will be whittled down by competing in increasingly difficult races and racing conditions.  16 of these contestants will move on to GT Academy boot camp, which will provide them with grueling challenges and test their driving skills while behind the wheel of real Nissan cars.  The ultimate winner of the contest will of course receive the ultimate reward of a position on a real race team, along with all the training and licensing necessary to be a real competitor in the racing world.  So will you been entering for your chance at this awesome prize?  Do you have what it takes to win?
