The Lego games have been pretty highly rated in the last few years, and have sold even better, so what’s to stop people from making new video games based on current toys? THQ seems to have had the same idea.
THQ has acquired the exclusive rights to creating games based upon Mattel toys, including Barbie, Hot Wheels and the Fisher-Price lines. Previously, multiple studios had created games on these properties, including Activision. THQ’s Executive Vice President of Kids, Family and Casual Games Martin Good seems very pleased with the deal.
We are excited to work hand-in-hand with the world’s No. 1 toy company to bring a new level of entertainment to its already incredibly popular brands. As we have shown with the combination of uDraw and Pictionary, there is enormous potential for the strategic relationship between THQ and Mattel. Through video games, we can build on some of the most famous and classic toy properties in the world, as well as unlock the entertainment potential of the newest creations from Mattel.
There are several games currently in development and are planned for a 2011 holiday release, but THQ is remaining mum on the subject. Along with the titles mentioned above, THQ is also exploring potential of titles based on Monster High, Rock ‘Em Sock Em, Polly Pocket, and Masters of the Universe.
Wait…. Masters of the Universe? That can only mean one thing.
