Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY May Call Verizon Wireless Its Home

As of late, any excitement involving Verizon Wireless has been directly related to Apple’s iPhone being added to Big Red’s line-up of smartphones. But according to a listing on Wirefly, there’s another contender coming to Verizon vying for the spotlight.

A comparison chart between the iPhone and Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play listed on Wirefly, “America’s Trust Source for Cell Phones”, pegs Verizon Wireless as the carrier for the upcoming PlayStation Certified Android-based Xperia PLAY. The listing has since been altered, saying only that the carrier for the Xperia PLAY is “to be determined”. I guess Sony Ericsson isn’t quite ready to show its hand.

This is the first we’ve heard of a carrier for the device in the US, while it’s been rumored that every major carrier is expected to offer the Xperia PLAY when it finally goes on sale this April.

Mobile World Congress kicks off early next week, so expect an official confirmation and details at that time.
