With so many features packed under the hood of Sony’s upcoming NGP, many have speculated that the handheld will cost a king’s ransom, despite Sony promising the PSP successor will be “affordable“. A new survey commissioned by Ubisoft now points towards the possible price points for the 3G and non-3G NGP.
Kotaku reports that a survey, conducted by research firm Toluna and sponsored by publisher Ubisoft, says that “the retail price of the Sony NGP is expected to be around $350” when talking about the 3G version, and asks: “How likely would you be to purchase the Sony NGP now that you know this retail price?”
The next question says that the non-3G version of the NGP will be available at a far lower price – $250. The $100 difference seems rather steep for simply 3G, so it may also mean that there are other differences in the hardware, such as the size of the internal memory. Considering the survey was conducted by Ubisoft rather than Sony, the price could be pure speculation, but publishers are often privy to price points long before consumers.
Additionally, the fact that Ubisoft have sponsored this survey shows that the publisher is currently considering how much it will invest in developing in the NGP, based on how much they believe the handheld will sell.
