“The Shoot” Dev Closing Up Shop

Cohort Studios‘ history began in 2006, when the company was founded and given its first project by SCEE to assist with the original MotorStorm. Unfortunately, it looks as if their swan song may end up being Me Monstar: Hear Me Roar! as the company faces some rather grim news.

According to Develop, Cohort Studios has had to make “all 25 [remaining] employees redundant.” Essentially, the company is closing up shop. Their last retail title was The Shoot, a PlayStation Move shooting gallery arcade-style game, which released to mostly mixed/average scores. This apparently did not lead to enough sales to keep the studio afloat, and as CEO Lol Stagg stated:

It really is with great sadness that we have been left with no alternative but to start winding down.

Cohort Studios has a lengthy track record despite being such a relatively young studio, including the development of a proprietary “Praetorian” rendering engine, and they were also contracted to add trophies to one of the oldest titles on the PlayStation Store, Lemmings. It does look like their first self-published title, the upcoming Me Monstar: Hear Me Roar! for the minis platform, will also be their last. We at PlayStation LifeStyle offer our condolences to the team, and wish them all luck on their future endeavors.
