id Tech 5 Provides Graphical Excellence in Latest Rage Gameplay Images

id Software’s upcoming first-person shooter, Rage, will be the first title to utilize the company’s latest propriety game engine, id Tech 5. While much of its improvements over previous engines has been marketed toward developers with its ease of use, it also lays the platform for stunning graphics by pushing shader and shadow technology to the next level. What this means for Rage is that it has a shot at becoming the new king of the hill in terms of graphics, which will be a hard feat given the remarkable visual presentation of games like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Killzone 3, and even God of War III, but it isn’t impossible.

Below are some gameplay screenshots of Rage which display some of the environments in the title, as well as its unique stylized graphical presentation. Keep in mind that the title is still a half year from release, so improvements will be made before that time.

We recently found out that Rage will be at least 15 hours in length, and since it includes a multiplayer sphere as well, longevity shouldn’t be a problem. Check out the latest weapons trailer to see what those 15 hours of gameplay look like in motion.
