Tales of Xillia Gets Token Old Man, Screens

Namco Bandai’s upcoming PS3 exclusive title Tales of Xillia is, as you may know, an RPG. This means it will need to contain a minimum number of items of an unwritten checklist, one of them being that a gray-haired man — or at least someone clearly beyond his prime — must at some point take up arms and join comrades that are at least two decades his junior. This week, the Tales developer gets to cross that one off its list.
Say “konnichiwa” to Rowen Ilbert, who finds himself working as a butler even though he’s quite proficient with a sword and can hang with magic skills. Looking him in at the screens below, it becomes obvious that Sean Connery is the absolute best choice for an English-language voice actor, in the event this game should be announced for localization outside Japan.

The company has also made it known that the battle system will have a system in place similar to those found in games such as Breath of Fire IV and Final Fantasy XII, in that players can switch characters in and out of a battle at any time. The only exception is when the character in question is knocked out. It’s therefore possible to use every single character in one fight, if players want to.

Tales of Xillia is set to be released some time in the second half of 2011 in Japan, while its series brother Tales of Graces f is expected to hit North America within that same time frame.
