Part two of our four-part series monitoring the Japanese sales over the country’s week-long holiday shows an old favorite leading the way in software sales. While PSP took everyone to school on the hardware charts, it was actually a DS game — a simple reboot at that — that claimed the most software sales. What can we say? People just can’t get enough Dragon Quest.

It seems that you just can’t keep Dragon Quest down on its home turf, as DQMJ2: Professional‘s topping of the software charts comes at the same time as Wii-bound Dragon Quest X reclaimed the top spot in Famitsu’s periodic countdown of the most-wanted games. PlayStation 3 RPG Tales of Xillia had held the number one spot for several months prior.
Final Promise Story was the subject of much hype and fanfare, as its pre-orders were selling out in a lot of places, and one of my local game stores had constructed something of a monument in its honor; I really wish I’d gotten a picture. We’ll see how the titles hang on as the sales numbers from the rest of the holidays are tallied up, so be sure to check back.
