Xperia Play Available for Pre-Order in the US This Week

The moment many have been waiting for is almost here. While the Xperia Play, unofficially known as the PlayStation Phone, released in Europe at the beginning of the month, its release stateside was delayed for undisclosed reasons. It looks like the wait is almost over.

The Android-powered gaming-centric smartphone, which we’ve basically known about since October, will be available for pre-order exclusively at verizonwireless.com this Thursday, May 19th. It will release a week afterwards and will also be available for purchase in-store for $199.99 on a new two-year contract. An off-contract price was not mentioned, but it would likely be in the $500-$700 range. You will also be required to sign up to a voice and data plan along with the phone. Voice plans start at $39.99 per month, while the unlimited data plan is $29.99 per month. This does not include a messaging plan – those range from $5 to $20 a month. The phone also comes pre-loaded with some games, including Madden NFL 11, Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, The Sims 3, Star Battalion, Crash Bandicoot, and Tetris. So, who’s ready to play?
