After the intrusion of the PlayStation Network, several developers were losing valuable revenue with one developer even asking users if they should release their PSN game upon its return. Capcom were also affected by the intrusion with the studio saying it may cost them hundreds of thousands, if not millions in revenue. Now, Sony has released the official figures in regards to what exactly the PSN hack will cost them.
Sony has the intrusion of the PlayStation Network will cost the company approximately ¥14 billion, which equates to £106 million/$171 million.
The announcement was made from Sony’s recent financial results for fiscal year ending March 31, 2011. Sony said in a statement:
Based on information currently available to Sony, our currently known costs associated with the unauthorized network access are estimated to be approximately 14 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012.
The whole company, meanwhile, expects a net loss of ¥260 billion; equating to £1.9 billion/$3.1 billion. The devastating Japan Earthquake and Tsunami had a larger impact, understandably, on the company. ¥17 billion – £128 million/$207 million – is what the cost was for the operating profits in the financial year.
The PlayStation Network returned to normal services – bar the PlayStation Store’s return – a few weeks ago. The PlayStation Store’s return, meanwhile, is apparently scheduled to go online tomorrow.
