Norse mythology buffs will recognize “Gungnir” as the name off Odin’s notoriously lethal, perfectly accurate spear. Now, RPG fans might be making a different association with the word, as Gungnir is also the name of a recently released PSP project by cult classic developer Sting.
Its full title being Gunguniru: Masou no Gunjin to Eiyuu Sensou (Gungnir: Inferno of the Demon Lance and the War of Heroes), the game pads its tactical RPG-style battles with downtime segments that feature story sequences and the token shopping and preparation. According to Sting’s announcements, the game will seem pretty normal at first, but get crazier and crazier with time. The game is said to have an interesting take on the passage of time and make use of a “tactics gauge” during combat. Take a look at the official trailer, box art, and batch of screenshots below.

Sting’s previous efforts have mostly been RPGs that pack a high amount of challenge and require serious strategy and planning, such as Yggdra Union, Riviera: The Promised Land, Knights in the Nightmare, and Hexyz Force. As this game is brand new on the market, we’ll have some sales data for you in the near future, supposing that it charts.
