L.A. Noire Set for Success, Becomes Bestselling New IP in UK Ever

Team Bondi and Rockstar Games‘ latest title, L.A. Noire, was quite the risk. Venturing into retail space as essentially an interactive movie with some game elements, the title has been a critical hit. But the question remained – could the critical acclaim result in a commercial success? Initial response from the UK market is that yes, it could.

As spotted on UK-based site ChartTrack, L.A. Noire came out of the gate at full speed this week.

Top 10 UK Software Sales (All Formats); week ending May 21:

  1. L.A. Noire
  2. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean
  3. Brink
  4. Zumba Fitness
  5. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
  6. Crysis 2
  7. Portal 2
  8. FIFA 11
  9. Mortal Kombat
  10. Call of Duty: Black Ops

Knocking Brink off from the first position multiplatform slot it held last week, the crime thriller has apparently sold copies at such a fast rate, it is now the highest-selling new IP in all of the UK’s history. Other notable movers and shakers on the list: Crysis 2 jumped 3 spots from 9th to 6th, bumping the lemon-hating Portal 2 to 7th, which is down from 4th the previous week. Call of Duty: Black Ops is still hanging onto the top 10, sliding from 5th to 10th in sales. It looks like L.A. Noire is well on its way to the predicted multi-million sales after all.
