Developer Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Square Enix are ready to show the world a new trailer of their upcoming multiplatform title, Dungeon Siege III. The companies have also made it known that a demo will be coming soon.
Xbox 360 players will be the first to give the game a test run, with the demo hitting the Xbox Live Marketplace on May 31. PlayStation Network and Steam users can grab the PS3 and PC versions on June 7, two weeks before its release date of June 21.
The Dungeon Siege series has been known for its classic hack-n-slash, dungeon crawl nature rather than having any sort of powerful story. This will be the first in the series to be developed by Obsidian and also the first published by Square Enix — the latter being a company that makes (or used to make) its living telling good stories, so the gaming world will have to wait and see if this one changes the trend. Previous main-series titles were developed by Gas Powered Games and published by Microsoft, exclusively for PC, until the PSP-based spinoff Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony came via SuperVillain Studios and Take-Two Interactive in 2006.
