Darksiders is, to many, one of the standout single-player games of this generation, with the critically acclaimed title delivering more than 25 hours of solid gameplay. Although THQ already confirmed a sequel to the action-adventure game, as well as stating information on the game was incoming, the company has officially announced Darksiders II.
Darksiders II has been officially announced today and confirmed to be in development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 as well as PC. The sequel to Vigil Game’s masterpiece has also been confirmed for a 2012 launch; previously stated by THQ’s vice president Danny Bilson.
THQ said Darksiders II‘s plot will be based upon one of the deaths of the original game’s four horsemen:
Darksiders 2 follows the exploits of DEATH, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, in a weaving tale that runs parallel to the events in the original Darksiders game. This epic journey propels DEATH through various light and dark realms as he tries to redeem his brother WAR, the horseman who was blamed for prematurely starting the Apocalypse in Darksiders.
The publisher provided more details on the sequel:
Features a dramatically larger world, full weapon and armour upgrade systems as well as bigger and more challenging dungeons and vast array of new enemies and bosses, Darksiders II strives to improve on every aspect of the original hit.
GameInformer‘s July cover will feature more Darksiders II details and the magazine also posted the game’s first artwork, which is undoubtedly well done. Check it out below:
