EA Sports Looking at New Texas Studio

Courtesy of a leaked internal company memo, EA Sports looks to be planning a move to the lonestar state where they will open a new development studio based in Austin, Texas. This studio would mark its third North American based development house, joining EA Canada and EA Tiburon.

In the memo, which was obtained by IGN, COO Daryl Holt revealed that he will be taking a look at a potential location in Austin as EA Sports looks to expand and take its franchises in “innovative new directions”.

Holt had the following to say in the memo:

We have aggressive plans for expansion, and I will be visiting Austin, Texas, this week to assess potential space for a new EA Sports studio location. Our goal is to attract, hire and retain the industry’s best talent.

Later in the memo, Holt stated that EA Sports has “cemented a new development structure” following key members of the Madden team departing.

With these departures comes a renewed focus on retention, but also a realization that these departures create new opportunities for our people at all levels within the studio

We will see whenever the Austin studio opens its door just what kind of games they will be responsible for. Until then, stay tuned to PlayStation LifeStyle as more news breaks on the subject.
