Legendary Ken Kutaragi Retires from PlayStation

In a day full of staff changes to the Sony hierarchy, the ‘Father of PlayStation’, Ken Kutaragi has decided to retire from his role as Honorary Chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment.  This news comes alongside the changes in top ranks at SCEI, where Andrew House took a promotion and moved up, while Akira Sato will retire and be replaced by Kazuo Hirai.

Kutaragi won’t be gone entirely, though, as he will continue in his role as senior technology adviser of Sony Corporation. He is the former Chairman and chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment.

Kutaragi is responsible for so much of what we have grown up loving about Sony PlayStation and was heavily involved in the launch of the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and the first PlayStation Portable.
