Western Games Enjoy Chart-topping Success in Japan

Living here in the ‘Pan and being lucky to see how the different game shops change their promotions, displays, posters, and shelf arrangements from week to week, I could of course tell that L.A. Noire, inFamous 2, and Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon were gearing up for market success. Never did I expect, however, that they’d go 1-2-3 on the national software sales charts. Media Create has the surprising info:

1. L.A. Noire (PS3)

2. inFamous 2 (PS3)

3. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon (PS3)

4. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon (360)

5. Wii Play: Motion (Wii)

6. Tiny Battlers (PSP)

7. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (3DS)

8. Steins Gate (PSP)

9. GoldenEye 007 (Wii, via Wiiware)

10. Wii Sports Resort with Remote Plus (Wii)

11. L.A. Noire (360)

12. Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (PS3)

13. Atelier Meruru: The Alchemist of Arland 3 (PS3)

14. Tales of the Abyss (3DS)

15. ToHeart2: Dungeon Travelers (PSP)

16. Class of Heroes 3D (3DS)

17. Pokemon Black / White (DS)

18. Gundam Memories: Memories of Battle (PSP)

19. Yakuza: Of the End (PS3)

20. Haruhi Suzumiya’s Mahjong (PSP)

The three actually claimed four spots, as Insect Armageddon‘s PS3 and 360 versions sit in places three and four, respectively. What’s interesting is if you disregard the Wiimote bundle packs, which I do, the 360 managed to sneak not one but two games into the top 10, as its version of L.A. Noire would move up.
