Namco Bandai has kept its fans guessing for some time since posting this new countdown site earlier this month. Soon, it’ll hit 0, but Japanese entertainment magazine V-Jump has already let the cat out of the bag — or rather, the mutated, super-evolved, catlike creature. The pages of the newest issue reveal that the game awaiting this big reveal is part of the long-running Digital Monsters franchise, Digimon Re: Digitize for PlayStation Portable.
The game will be an RPG, to which the Digimon series is no stranger. There will be parts that take place in both the Digital World and the real world; as expected, growth occurs through pitting the monsters against each other in battle.
This is pure speculation, but don’t be surprised if there are two different, connected versions of this game. Digimon World: Dawn and Dusk launched simultaneously for the Nintendo DS a few years ago and interacted in the ways that different colored Pokemon versions tend to. That’s not always how Digimon games go though, as that same year also saw the standalone Digimon World: Data Squad hit the PS2. As usual with this series, the player character begins with the fire elemental T-Rex lookalike Agumon. Not much else is known outside the fact that the game is expected to be released in 2012, but stay tuned for more.
