It looks like basketball legends Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson will have to share the spotlight in the latest installment in 2K’s popular basketball franchise. Julius “Dr. J” Erving and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar have been confirmed to be playable in 2K12‘s all-new ‘NBA’s Greatest’ mode.
This new option will allow players to get a taste of the sport’s history by playing through many of the NBA’s most memorable moments. In addition, a total of 15 NBA teams will be available for the player to choose from. It looks like 2K is really capitalizing on the success of last year’s title, which highlighted the career defining moments of the one and only Michael Jordan.
If the franchise continues to innovate and push the basketball gaming genre forward, it’s going to be one tough franchise to compete with for years to come. It’s likely that we’ll see the NBA 2K series become the Madden of basketball games over the next couple of years. Let’s just hope this bout of innovation doesn’t die out with the competition.
Look for NBA 2K12 when it arrives on store shelves this October.
