Missions in Borderlands 2 to be “Three Times Bigger in Scope”

Paul Hellquist, a game designer at Gearbox, has shared some info about the upcoming Borderlands 2, claiming that it will be bigger and better on a number of levels.

According to Hellquist, in an interview with Game Informer, the team plans to ramp up the game’s overall scope and story.

The story missions in Borderlands 2 are about three times the scope of a single story mission in the first game. And they twist and turn throughout; your gameplay is changing, your goals are changing… it will be a much more dynamic experience compared to last time.

Lots of fans and critics gave us the business on the story. When we took a look at what we had done last time, we said, ‘we can do way better than that. So story has been, from the very first day, one of the most important things that we wanted to improve in Borderlands 2.

Innovation through storytelling has been a popular trend in the industry lately, with games like Heavy Rain and Bioshock Infinite pushing the envelope on what games can be. Let’s hope Borderlands 2 helps to raise that bar even further when it launches next year.
