Japanese Sales: PSP Rocks Software AND Hardware

While not taking the top spot in hardware sales (as it had been rather accustomed to) this past week, the PSP still keeps shifting hardware in Japan, with yet another week topping the 30k plateau. More amazingly, the system now claims yet another exclusive debuting at number one, as Grand Knights History is the nation’s best-selling game.

Made by Vanillaware (Odin Sphere, Muramasa) and published by Marvelous, the game sold well over 60 thousand copies on its trip to the top. PSP would go on to pack nine games into Japan’s top 20.

Here’s the complete software chart for August 29 – September 4:

01. [PSP] Grand Knights History

02. [PS3] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 HD

03. [WII] Rhythm Heaven

04. [PS3] Samurai Warriors 3: Empires

05. [3DS] Devil Survivor: Over Clock

06. [NDS] Kirby Mass Attack

18. [PSP] Toriko: Gourmet Survival

19. [PSP] Taiko Drum Master Portable DX

20. [NDS] Suite Pre Cure: Melody Collection

Even the 360 snuck one into the top 20 this week. Behold the selling power of Monster Hunter, ladies and gentlemen.

The hardware chart looks like this:

3DS – 54,744

PS3 – 33,831

PSP – 30,199

Wii – 11,606

DS – 5,710

PS2 – 1,394

Xbox 360 – 1,228

The 3DS price drop continues to show its positive effects on system sales, but unfortunately for Nintendo, the machine is having a rough time moving software. PS3 meanwhile also stays well above 30k. Look for that to go up even more, as the next sales report will include Tales of Xillia.
