Watch Drake Wander the Desert in New Uncharted 3 Off-Screen Gameplay Footage

By now, most (if not all) of you have seen the mind-blowing cargo plane footage of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, which ends with our hero Nathan Drake being hurled from a plummeting plane. If you’re interested to see what happens next, we’ve got you covered, as Naughty Dog has demoed a section of gameplay that follows the events of the crash.

With Drake now stranded in the desert without food and water, things don’t appear to be going all that well for our hero, which is a bit reminiscent of the opening of Uncharted 2, where Drake finds himself stranded atop a snowy mountain in the back of a broken-down train.

Naughty Dog is always looking for new ways to up their game. In the Uncharted 2, it was crafting a snowy environment, while this time, its working with sand and the challenges that come from trying to render an environment that is composed of millions of tiny particles. As you’ll see in the clip below, they’ve outdone themselves once again, as the sand moves and shifts in such a realistic and believable way.

Note: The video below is off-screen footage and the first few minutes or so are of the actors working with motion capture technology. If you want to get right to the gameplay footage, skip to about four minutes in.
