Square Says Final Fantasy Brand Has Been “Greatly Damaged”

During a Tokyo press conference today, Square Enix’s CEO Yoichi Wada told attending reporters that he believes the Final Fantasy brand has been greatly tarnished, with the executive referring to the failures of Final Fantasy XIV. It’s now been more than a year since Final Fantasy XIV was released, with the game currently maintaining a rather miserable 49 out of 100 Metacritic rating. A large percentage of the reviewers cited the game as being buggy, unpolished, and even incomplete.

Speaking at the press conference Wada’s stated:

The Final Fantasy brand has been greatly damaged. We’ll continue with our reform work, which basically amounts to fully redoing the game, and hope to revive the FFXIV that should have been released.

Square has tried to rectify the situation by extending the Final Fantasy XIV one month free trial until further notice. Then, of course, there’s the PS3 version, which will seemingly benefit from all of the revamped work that will be put into the title to bring it up to a standard that is deemed acceptable.
