PlayStation Vita Remote Play Detailed

We got a glimpse of it in action back at the Tokyo Game Show, but the Vita’s remote play functionality was far from complete when we saw it last. Fortunately, Sony has been hard at work fine-tuning the feature with the aim of providing unprecedented levels of interactivity between their portable and home console.

Speaking to Famitsu, Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida explained that Sony is striving to attain the same level of speed when connected to a PS3 wirelessly in comparison to the directly connected Vita that was demoed at TGS. Remote Play will allow you to play PS3 titles on your Vita and, in order to do so, developers have to make a few modifications in terms of CPU and memory use to their games.

Sony are currently working on a beta that will be sent to developers, and plan to have this functionality work with both pre-existing and upcoming titles. In addition, the Vita can be used as a PS3 controller, should you choose. In this instance, the Vita’s screen will provide another viewing method, opening up possibilities similar to what Nintendo is doing with the Wii U.

Not word has been given yet on when this feature will be available, but you can bet that Sony is doing everything they can to get it out and functional as soon as possible.
