The Uncharted series might only have been born four years ago, but time isn’t everything. Its extremely positive reception has propelled it to stardom commercially, and has made it one of the best-selling games on the PlayStation 3 with some impressive numbers that have finally been tallied.
According to a press release by SCEJ, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series has totaled eight million sales across two releases. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves makes up the majority of sales with its 4.9 million, which will hit five million shortly with the recent release of the Uncharted: Dual Pack.
Uncharted 2 is one of the highest-rated games of this generation, so these numbers don’t come as much of a surprise. The question is, can Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception top its predecessors? With a larger install base on the PS3, and a growing reputation, its only roadblock is standing out during this year’s heavy line-up of hot titles. Naughty Dog has stated that Uncharted 3 encompasses their many years of cumulative experience and goes even bigger than the previous title. We’ll have to wait and see how well that translates into the experience once it arrives next month.
