Bethesda Tells Fans to “Calm Down”, Skyrim Patch In the Works

Despite an overwhelmingly positive reception and sales in the millions, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim released last week with its share of bugs and glitches. While some of the instability was to be expected, what is important is that Bethesda addresses it promptly, something the company has had trouble with over the years. However, the team has asked for patience while it works on addressing dozens of concerns.

Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda, has confirmed that a patch is in development for Skyrim, but feels that fans are asking for too much, too fast. On his Twitter account he replied to a user who said the publisher never responded:

We are continuing to work on an update for all platforms to address any bugs and perf issues we can, patches/updates take a little time. We can’t turn it around quite that fast. It’s been three days. Calm down. We’re working on it.

Whether it be on the PC or PS3 version, issues have been prevalent, ranging from game freezing, to textures not loading properly, framerate dropping, and worst of all quests not behaving how they should. A day one patch was released, but simply wasn’t enough. Releasing a game of Skyrim‘s magnitude without problems is extremely difficult, but with a budget the size of Bethesda’s, and their plans to release downloadable content before the end of the year, fans have the right to expect a polished experience. Here’s to hoping the next patch will take care of the issues that hamper the experience of what could be the best game of 2011.
