With franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne, and Bully, the guys over at Rockstar have more IPs than they know what to do with. With both a new Max Payne and GTA title on the horizon, plans for a Bully follow-up had to be put on hold.
It is clear that the guys over at Rockstar love the Bully franchise and would love to make a sequel, but unfortunately something like that isn’t in the cards for the studio right now. Speaking to Gamasutra, Rockstar’s Dan Houser explained why they can’t fit in time for another Bully game.
We have been meaning to start it for a while, but we have limited bandwidth and limited studios, and more games to make than we’ve started.
[They knew they didn’t want to work on] Bully sequel instantly at that second with those guys — even though it is a property that, like Max, we adore and might come back to in the future. There was just no impetus to do that then.
So we said, ‘You can do Max, and then we will see what we can do with Bully.’ So it was really waiting for the slot to open up and the group to open up to at least start work on it.
Judging by the fondness that Rockstar has expressed for the franchise, it looks like a new Bully is only a matter of when.
