BBC Worldwide announced today that they’re teaming with Tumble and Start The Party developer Supermassive Games to create a game based on popular sci-fi television series Doctor Who. The game is called Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock and is the first of three planned games based on the series.
Players are said to “take on the role” of The Doctor and River Song (though whether or not both are playable isn’t specified) and save the Earth, encountering a number of time travel puzzles along the way. Actions made at one point in time could affect another point in time, allowing for multiple possible outcomes.
The game has a new storyline developed specifically for the video game series. Photorealistic graphics, television quality scenes, and highly realistic characters are promised for the title. The game’s motion capture is said to provide “incredibly realistic in-game characters.” Also, Doctor Who stars Matt Smith (Dr. Who) and Alex Kingston (River Song) have done full voiceovers for the game.

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will release “initially” as a digital download on PSN for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, in addition to PC, in early 2012. Considering Supermassive’s experience with the Move, it’s possible that the game could have Move support, but it hasn’t been confirmed.
Presumably, this is one of the PS3 games that we discovered Supermassive were working on earlier this year, but there are meant to be several in development.
