One of the world’s greatest skating legends returns to the world of videogames with the announcement of Tony Hawk HD. Joystiq snagged the first official details before the big announcement tonight at the Spike Video Game Awards.
The new game will be a repacking of select levels from the first two Tony Hawk titles remastered in HD. The game won’t be a retail release either – Tony Hawk HD is currently scheduled for release on “Digital Platforms” sometime during the first half of 2012.
Let’s hope they don’t forget the once revolutionary “create a park” feature. I can’t recall how many hours I lost during high school to the first two Tony Hawk games. You know what Activision? Throw in the soundtracks from the first two games while you’re at it. I want a complete nostalgia bomb.
As we’ve previously covered, the Tony Hawk series established itself as one of the premiere ‘extreme sports’ titles in the late 1990s/early 2000s. The series enjoyed monumental success with the first four entries before making the jump to the current generation of consoles in 2005. The more recent entries haven’t been so kind to gamers, featuring gimmicky plastic controllers and throw away game mechanics.
