Sony Announces That PS Vita Has Sold 500,000 Units, Reveals PlayStation Hardware Sales Figures

Sony has announced how its hardware units — the PS2, PS3, PSP, and PS Vita — have performed at retail this holiday worldwide.

The PlayStation Vita, as of January 5th, has sold 500,000 units since its release in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Sony also said that more than 70 titles are in development for Vita for the Japanese market. The PlayStation 3 exceeded 3.9 million units worldwide during the holiday season and is on track to reach Sony’s annual sales target of 15.0 million units before the end of the fiscal year (March 31, 2012).

The PlayStation Portable continued to have fairly significant sales, having exceeded 1.6 million units worldwide. The PlayStation Move exceeded 1.7 million units worldwide, with Sony saying that the Move will see more supported and dedicated titles in 2012. The PlayStation 2 still managed to put up impressive numbers, exceeding half a million units worldwide.
