Update: EA has released a new trailer for the game, which can be seen inside the post below.
Original Story: EA has announced crossover unlocks for the demos of two of their upcoming RPGs, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Mass Effect 3. In other words, if you download the demo for one game, you’ll unlock content not just for the game that the demo is for, but content for the other title as well.
GameSpot reports that in the demo for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, players will unlock The Reckoner Knight Armor and Chakram Launcher for use in Mass Effect 3. The Reckoner Knight Armor “maximizes close-quarter damage and increases projectile velocity.” The Chakram Launcher, which is available only to players who beat the demo and watch the trailer afterwards, fires “lightweight, explosive ammunition discs.” For KOA:R itself, gamers will unlock the following: an ice resistance booster Twist of Fate card, The Twinned Souls Chakram (which boosts health and mana), and The Infernal Helm helmet (available after tutorial completion).
In Mass Effect 3‘s demo, gamers will unlock the N7 Armor and Omniblade Daggers for KOA:R. The N7 Armor has a design similar to Shepard’s armor (N7 is Shepard’s rank, for those not familiar with the series), while the Omniblade Daggers are holographic blades designed for close quarters combat.
The demo for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is scheduled to be released January 17th for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The full game will be released on February 7th. Mass Effect 3‘s demo has no release date, but the game is scheduled to be released on March 6th for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
EA had previously announced that owners of EA and DICE’s FPS Battlefield 3 will get early access to the multiplayer portion of the Mass Effect 3 demo.
