THQ Shifts Focus to Core Franchises, Ships 3.8 Million Copies of Saints Row: The Third

Sorry boys and girls, but it looks like game publisher THQ is officially moving out of kids’ licensed entertainment to focus more heavily on its core franchises.

In a recent investor announcement, THQ’s president and CEO Brian Farrell explained that “THQ will be a more streamlined organization focused only on our strongest franchises.” He went on to point out the success they’ve seen with Saints Row: The Third and subsequent digital content.

The success of Saints Row: The Third is an example of what our revised strategy and focus can achieve. We have now shipped 3.8 million units globally and are currently expecting to ship between five and six million units lifetime on this title.

Additionally, our robust digital content offerings for this game have resulted in the highest digital revenue of any console title in our history.

The publisher plans to share more about their future endeavors on February 2nd, at their Quarter 3 2012 conference call, so stay tuned for more info. In the meantime, gamers can look forward to some of their hot new upcoming titles including UFC Undisputed 3 and Darksiders II.
