Last week, Tim Schafer shared with fans his eagerness to do Psychonauts 2, noting the unfortunate fact that it has been difficult to get funding. Upon hearing this, Minecraft creator Notch stepped forward stating that he would be willing to fund the game. Now, word has it that the wealthy game designer would be happy to fund the game to the tune of $13 million.
This news broke in an interview with Kotaku, where Double Fine boss Tim Schafer discussed the two’s negotiations.
‘I don’t think you can make [it] for a million dollars.’
The original game was, I think, $13 million. I think you have to match the original game.
As soon as I mentioned the amount of money he said, ‘Yeah, I can do that.’
Markus ‘Notch’ Persson has yet to clarify whether he plans to offer these funds out of pocket or help garner funds by rounding up investors. Either way, it looks like the highly anticipated followup to Schafer’s whimsical platformer may actually become a reality. His willingness to agree to pay $13 million just like that is also promising, suggesting he’d possible be willing to pay more.
