Rumor: Sony Planning to Beat Microsoft to Market with PS4

PlayStation 4 rumors were the talk of the town last week, with reports indicating that Sony’s next console is codenamed Orbis and is expected to launch during the latter half of 2013. Now, according to a new report from an alleged source, it looks like Sony will be pushing hard to beat Microsoft out of the gate with their new console.

The “source” told VG247 that Sony is “confident” that they will have the PS4 out to market before the next Xbox. In fact, the source claims that the framework and design specs for the console were laid out at least two years ago.

Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time. You should be watching the timing of next year’s E3 keynotes, and who’s going to go first.

The report also indicates that the majority of developers will be briefed on the new hardware sometime in May or June of this year, and of course, they’ll be under a strict NDA. Apparently, most of the the big guys are already well informed on the tech, as “Developers working with publishers – like Ubisoft, for example – already know what’s going on. They’re already working on it.”

Additionally, it looks like Sony is really going to be working to fully integrate the PS Vita with the next PlayStation console. The report claims that, parts of the Vita’s launch hardware were changed to prepare the device to communicate with the PS4 like the Wii U’s tablet controller.
