Skype Functionality Coming to PS Vita Later Today

If you’ve been looking forward to video chatting with your friends on the Vita, we’ve got some exciting news for you, as Sony and Skype have just announced that the application will be available for download later today.

According to a post earlier today on the US PlayStation Blog, Skype will launch on the PlayStation Store by the end of the day for gamers in the US, leaving Vita owners in Europe waiting until tomorrow for the added functionality.

As one might expect, Skype to Skype calls will be free and will make use of both the Vita’s 3G and Wi-Fi connections. As an added bonus, the app can run in the background while you are playing a game to ensure that you don’t miss a call, even when you’re knee deep in Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
